The Onset of Winter

This past few days have been very cold and frosty - so cold that I can no longer call it autumn and am forced to acknowledge the onset of winter.

Don't get me wrong: I like winter, just not as much as autumn, or any of the other seasons for that matter. It just has a tendency to drag on and on, until I wonder whether spring will ever arrive. Every year around the middle of January I find myself hating the snow and missing the green grass, moss and leaves so terribly. However, it's not that bad yet, and I am even looking forward to a bit of snow now that the Yule season is fast approaching. I have decided that rather than wishing fervently for spring, I will try to enjoy the winter a bit more and fight to keep the winter depression away with all the dullness and loss of creativity it usually brings.

So, in celebration of the winter season, here are some photos I took on my woodland walk today.

I felt as though I was peering into a crystal cave.

A tiny shard of ice.

Ice has began forming in the stream, creating beautiful crystalline structures.

Has winter arrived where you live?

Beautiful pictures! I always loved winter. But there are things I dislike about it, like when the snow is getting dirty... I really don't like that and also because it's so cold. I mean, I like the cold more than the heat but -15° C is just too cold, especially when you need to travel for a long time every day (To go to college I need to travel for 2 hours to get to my school and 2 hours to go back every day). But I LOVE how cozy winter is. Like sitting inside with a hot choco drink and looking outside and everything is white... I guess you could say I have a love-hate relationship with winter (more love though) :) Here in Belgium winter hasn't arrived yet. It's getting really cold though and I heard that it did snow along with rain for a little while but I haven't noticed it since I'm studying these days for my upcoming exams. I can't waitttt to go explore everything winter has to offer me! :)

Feyza: I know what you're talking about - I'm not overly fond of dirty snow or below -15° temperatures either (though I am used to it, we have cold winters in Norway). I also know what a pain it is to travel so far, I also had about 2 hours' travelling time each way when I went to university. Bleh. But I totally agree that winter is the cosiest time! I hope you will have a bright, snowy and not too cold winter this year! :)

Noen flotte bilder! =)

Tusen takk :)

I have a great love for all things fantastical, fairytale-ish. Irish, Celtic and Norse. My biggest passion is playing the harp, but I also love playing my tin whistles/flute and making fantasy jewellery. I have a Bachelor's degree in the Irish language (also covering Celtic civilization, literature and mythology) from the University of Oslo, which I am very proud of even if I can't use it for anything career-wise. This blog is all about the things I like and involve myself in, and hopefully I may be of some inspiration to others.
